'Beer from the Wood'
Every Monday (Subject to availability)
On occasion at Ye Olde Mitre, we serve beer from the wood — poured straight from a traditional wooden cask, just as it would have been served hundreds of years ago. Long before metal casks became the norm, brewers stored and served their ales in wooden barrels, which could subtly influence the flavour, lending a gentle woody note and a softer, more natural carbonation.
This rare experience lets you taste beer not only in one of London's oldest pubs, but as it once was: alive, characterful, and steeped in history. It’s a unique opportunity to enjoy a pint the way our ancestors might have — a proper bit of living history in your glass!
Please note: 'Beer from the wood' is subject to availability due to the traditional, time-consuming preparation involved. We aim to serve it every Monday, but can’t guarantee it—so if you're keen, feel free to call, email, or check our live beer list on the Untappd app for updates.
